Dr. James Wilbert Marcantel Jr.
James grew up in Pickering, Louisiana, where he played football and ran track, and he went on to compete as a decathlete at McNeese State. He earned his PT, DPT from LSU Health Sciences in New Orleans in 2017 and joined Hope Therapy Center in 2018. His clinical focus is neurological injury: stroke, Parkinson's disease, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury. He is LSVT certified, and that training shapes how he coaches patients through the deliberate, full-effort movement work that neurological recovery asks for. If you are relearning how to stand, walk, or trust your balance again, James will tell you plainly where you are now and what the next step looks like.
Do small things with great love.
What guides the work.
James puts his core value simply: he tries to see Jesus in everyone. In practice that means every person on his schedule gets the same patience, whether it is a first session three weeks after a stroke or the hundredth repetition of a movement that is finally starting to hold. It is also why he keeps the conversation about your progress honest, even on the weeks when the honest answer is that we hold the line and keep working.
Life beyond the treatment table.
Away from the clinic, James is with his family, outside, or making music. Those three things keep him steady, and they are a good part of why he understands what patients mean when they say they want their own version of an ordinary day back.
